After several reports in the American media that diplomats in China were asked to perform the new ‘anal’ tampon of the coronavirus, the Beijing authorities were forced to officially deny it, due to the multiplication of satire on social networks.
Some Chinese cities have already started the procedure of anal swabs, which experts say “increases the detection rate of infected people.”
The country has already brought the pandemic under control.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian today denied the allegations, saying at a news conference that “China has never asked US diplomats stationed in China to perform coronavirus anal swabs.”
A few days ago the daily Washington Post wrote that some American employees in were forced to perform unusual tests.
Anal tampon involves inserting a 3-5cm cotton swab into the anus (end of the human intestine) and gently rotating it.
It was not clear how many U.S. diplomats had taken this type of test, but the State Department gave an official statement on the matter.
“The State Department has never accepted this type of testing and we protested to the Chinese Foreign Ministry when we learned that some of the staff members had been forced to do so,” a spokesman for Vice News said.
But on the Chinese social platform Sina Weibo many users made satirical comments. One of them said: “Americans are very mouth-torn when it comes to China, so they can confuse oral tampon with anal.”
Others have denied the allegations, saying “this is another rumor of” discrediting China in their media. “
