Three groups of negotiators are sitting at a table with the majority to propose names and appoint the new President of the Republic.
The opposition, which is more divided than ever, while within the Democratic Party itself is the group that supports Enkelejd Alibeaj and Sali Berisha, is divided in this important process.
Fatmir Mediu, part of the negotiating team, says the opposition should have been serious with itself first.
“The interest in having a representative of the dignity of the people does not prevail. The opposition had to be serious with itself first. There should have been a negotiating body, not three as we have, which shows a lack of will, because I have also said names that would be acceptable to all.
If we do not know how to be fair to each other… what we had a duty was not to convince the majority, we had a duty to have one or two candidacies that everyone agreed on”.
The solution, according to Mediu, would be done in only one way:
“For me, at the moment we are today, the only chance is to have a candidacy approved by all members of the Albanian parliament and in this process we came up with a figure, two figures acceptable for the position of President”.
