A British nurse who married a factory worker in the US in a virtual ceremony without ever meeting in person, says she is already “heartbroken” after they started the divorce process.
26-year-old Ayse Reeves, from Lancaster, started talking to 24-year-old Darrin Martin, from Michiganduring the time of virus isolation in 2020 when they were recognized in a group of Facebook.
Consequently on May 21, 2021 she accepted his “video proposal” for marriage and the two celebrated their “dizzying” romance with a marriage on the Zoom network, which are recognized as valid in the US state of Utah.
Their “wedding” on August 19, 2021 was the first time that a British person gets married in a direct “live stream” relationship.
The health worker is said to have planned the future with her American boyfriend but now she feels lost because after three months she is divorcing because she says that “she no longer trusts him”.
Although it was not an ordinary wedding ceremony, Ayse was dressed in a white dress and accompanied by her parents, while Darrin was accompanied by his mother and wore a serious suit to deliver his vows.
But then Ayse said she had started to suspect something.
“I felt that there was something that every time I asked him he either denied or changed the subject.”
“Then I learned about an ex-boyfriend named Liz,” Ayse told the British daily The Sun.though Darrin says there is nothing more between the two.
The woman has already applied for annulment of the marriage citing as reasons “non-consumption of the relationship” and the couple are waiting for documentation.
They are already planning the divorce party, which Ayse says celebrates the passing of the issue and moving forward.
She admits that she would have done anything for Darri because she was in love, but already understands why others also suspected that their relationship would not last.
She has vowed not to do online dating.
