Albania’s permanent envoy to the United Nations, Ferit Hoxha, in an interview for “Top Story” recalls the first day of work at the UN.
Hoxha talks about the emotions and responsibility he felt in the new task, which he considers the most important post for a diplomat.
“First I felt trembling feet, great pride and what would be my first speech. What would be the first sentence, I would start with thanking the president who was then Norway or I would say something more personal. “My fate was that I was not the first speaker and after the second speaker I lost my emotions.”
In front of the journalist Sokol Balla, our envoy to the UN talks about this new task, which he says has helped him grow professionally.
“Nothing I have done in my life, no previous task is comparable to the emotion, to the honor I feel as a representative of Albania in the Security Council for the first time in the history of my country.
I do not think that any diplomat, from any country, says that there is a more important position than representing the country in this structure. It is a great pleasure, it is a special task, the most wonderful professional exhibition. Nowhere else have I met more trained, more professionally trained teams than at the UN. “Sometimes you are amazed by the attitudes of countries with which we have completely different views, but the way it is argued is wonderful and they have been part of the lessons I have personally learned.”.
Albania is a non-permanent member of the Security Council. Since the start of the Russian occupation of Ukraine, our country has strongly condemned the aggression ordered by President Vladimir Putin and has become part of resolutions condemning Russia.
