At least 10 civilians were killed by Russian shelling in a city in eastern Ukraine on May 16, the Luhansk region governor said as Ukrainian Defense Minister and US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin held a telephone conversation.
Serhiy Hayday said civilians were killed in Severodonjeck, having previously reported that heavy shelling had erupted in residential areas.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said they had discussed the situation on the battlefield with Secretary Austin, and that Austin’s conversation had had a similar conversation that the US official had with his Russian counterpart last week.
