The anti-mafia prosecutor, Marcelo Peçi, from Paraguay was shot dead on Tuesday while he was on his honeymoon on a Caribbean island, as the attackers left by speedboat at sea.
Peci, 45, was shot twice, according to his wife, Paraguayan journalist Claudia Aguilera.
“Two men attacked Marcelon. They came (from the sea) in a small boat, “ said Aguilera for the newspaper El Tiempo.
One of the assailants came out and “silently shot Marcelo twice, one (bullet) hit him in the face and another in the back,” she said.
Aguilera, who is pregnant, said her husband of less than two weeks had not received any threats.
Colombian police chief Jorge Luis Vargas announced a $ 488,000 reward for information leading to the capture of prosecutor Marcelo Peci’s killers.
Pecci was identified for his work in money laundering and drug cases, and the investigation into the murder of a regional governor’s daughter in the last 12 months.
He was also working on the case against Brazilian footballer Ronaldinho, who was arrested trying to enter Paraguay with a forged Paraguayan passport in 2020
