This Tuesday, the process for the election of the new president of the Republic of Albania officially begins.
The Conference of Presidents will convene at 12:30, where representatives from the majority and the opposition will sit at the table to start the procedures and set the date of the first ballot for the election of the head of state.
Although a presidential “noise” has been created for weeks with names, proposals and assumptions, there is still no official name as a candidate to replace Ilir Meta, who ends his term in July.
Enkelejd Alibeaj confirmed on Monday afternoon that the opposition will be part of the table of the Conference of Presidents. Also from the opposition will be Agron Gjekmarkaj, Fatmir Mediu, Mesila Doda and Grida Duma.
The opposition presented a few days ago a draft which stipulates how the election of the new head of state should be done and how it should act in each round, which is expected to be discussed this Tuesday.
Although it has enough votes to elect the new head of state alone, the SP has expressed readiness to hear opposition groups at the table in parliament as well as with civil society.
