Former People’s Advocate, Ermir Dobjani, invited to Top Story, said that an investigative experiment is needed to find out what happened to Ilvi Meta, a 31-year-old man who is suspected of committing suicide at the Kavaja police station.
“Still after 30 years, people lose their lives at the hands of the police, a person who was killed by the Korça police, was investigated and a re-autopsy was performed which confirmed that he had died as a result of police violence, 6 police officers were convicted and the main were sentenced to 16 years in prison each. It must be proved that this belt had that power, need an investigative experiment with the tool that has been done, it would show a lot. It will be ascertained if he has put that belt on. This will solve the puzzle. “The other issue is that the police make mistakes when making statements.”said Dobjani.
The 31-year-old was found dead around 19:00 on Wednesday evening in one of the cells of the Kavaja police station. The young man was arrested by court order after he was suspected of stealing an apartment in Kavaja on April 2. Police forces locked him in solitary confinement around 15:00 and four hours later he was found dead.
