Due to the Russian blockade on the Black Sea, Ukraine can not export wheat and other seafood.
The Romanian port in Constanta has become the closest point where they can pursue maritime trade.
But this compromise is full of logistical problems that need to be resolved by Romanian authorities and companies.
Currently Ukrainian wheat and corn are being loaded on trains, trucks or boats on the Danube River to be transported to Romanian ports.
Before the war Ukraine exported 4.5 million tons of agricultural products per month from its ports, mainly wheat, corn and sunflower oil.
Bulgaria also said this week that it would help distribute Ukrainian grain from its Black Sea port of Varna to improve infrastructure.
Meanwhile in Constanta the first ship with 70,000 tons of Ukrainian corn set off today to its destination.
It took 49 trains or small river boats to fill it, port authorities say.
Even before the war, Constanta had crossed the French port of Le Havre becoming the main point of grain exports to Europe, says director Florin Goidea.
“Our goal is to load goods as soon as possible to help the economy in Ukraine. The war is a challenge but also an opportunity for us,” he added.
