The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, present today at the homage paid to the new Memorial for 225 Martyrs of the Fatherland, part of the State Police, expressed his deep gratitude to all those who fell in office.
The Municipality of Tirana has given its contribution for the construction and financing of this work.
“Today, the Municipality of Tirana joins the community of those who are the ‘guardians of the good’, with this modest contribution of a dignified memorial, to have a place for placing a wreath of flowers, in memory of all those who wear the uniform every morning to serve the country, guaranteeing us all common security, but they have paid for this mission with the most precious price, which is their life. Today we are discussing wars that take place somewhere far away and we very well appreciate the heroism of other peoples, but we have many heroes within us. The time had come to have this memorial. Many thanks to Agim Rada and the team of the municipality that helped, this year, May 5 to find us with this dignified space, which I hope will be a way for the city to prove its gratitude for the sacrifice of your loved ones,“Veliaj addressed the families of the Police Martyrs.
The mayor highly praised the work of the State Police, thanks to which, he said, today we are classified as one of the safest capitals in Europe.
“When someone wears the uniform with the coat of arms of the Republic of Albania, he performs the most dignified service that someone can offer you. I know every job is honorable, but there are some jobs that are probably the most delicate jobs, are those jobs that face the front of evil. This city is today one of the safest capitals in Europe. I understand that we are Balkans, maybe our culture that we can hardly speak well, we can hardly tell each other that we are proud of them, we appreciate their work and effort, but I believe that the time has come to raise the figure of police, firefighters and the military. I want to do just that today, to tell you how grateful I am to all those who wear the uniform, how grateful I am to the families of the fallen martyrs and how this gesture and this memorial park I hope will be not just a moment and a place honor, but also a moment of reflection on how we can make society better, ” continued the mayor.
The Albanian government has granted the status of “Children in the Care of the Republic” to children whose parents gave their lives in the line of duty, including many of the State Police Martyrs.
