After the informal dinner hosted in Berlin, where the European Union special envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, received the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, the head of the Kosovo executive also announced that the next meeting will not be at the level of leaders, but at the level of chief negotiators.
In a statement to RTK, Kurti stressed that Vucic’s views are old.
“The third meeting was held at the Borsig Palace on the outskirts of Berlin with Lajcak’s facilitation or mediation, which was a preparation for next week when on May 13, our chief negotiators meet in Brussels. The attitudes of the president of our northern neighbor are old and my insistence is of course on a binding agreement that fully normalizes relations between our two countries, focusing on mutual recognition. But in this respect, I can not say that there is progress. “So there is no distancing from Milosevic, there is no distancing from Putin, and in addition to having old attitudes, there is also disorderly conduct, I would say.”
Kurti added that now, even the international factors are clear that it is Serbia that must change, in order to have a solution and agreement. “I am reiterating that the attitudes are old and that is why we can not have a new agreement that is needed not only for the relations between Kosovo and Serbia, but also for the Balkans in general, I would say the European Union as well “, he underlined. According to the Kosovar Prime Minister, the Russian aggression in Ukraine has further aggravated the disputes between Kosovo and Serbia. Prior to the meeting with Lajcak, both he and Vucic had separate meetings in Berlin with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who stressed after the conversation with Kurti that the recognition of Kosovo’s independence from Serbia is part of the dialogue for the normalization of relations between the two countries.
