This morning has found Ukraine again in the agony of war. It has been 70 days since Russia launched the bombings and attacks on Ukraine and it seems it will continue to do so in the coming days.
Belarus, meanwhile, is conducting military exercises in northern Ukraine. The Belarusian Defense Ministry claims that the moves are in an attempt to test their combat readiness, which may be a concern for the Ukrainian side even though the Belarusian Defense Ministry denied such a thing. In recent weeks it has been claimed that a series of missiles hitting northern Ukraine appeared to be coming from across the Belarus border.
Three Russian missiles have hit power plants in western Ukraine, leaving much of the country without electricity.
Meanwhile a convoy of buses left the southern port of Mariupol this morning in an attempt to evacuate civilians from the besieged city. The evacuation, confirmed by the governor of Donetsk, was coordinated by Ukraine, the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Buses were heading to the Ukrainian-controlled city of Zaporizhia, Pavlo Kyrylenko said. It is unclear whether any of these people were from the Azovstal steel plant, where hundreds of civilians and up to 2,000 Ukrainian fighters are thought to have remained.
