The funeral of a woman in Peru was interrupted yesterday when the “dead” woman started hitting from inside the coffin to say that she was still alive.
Shocked relatives opened the coffin of 36-year-old Rosa Isabel Cespede Callaca, where they found her with open eyes, looking at them.
Rosa and the coffin were taken to Ferrenafe Hospital in the body of a pickup truck, where she was immediately connected to the machine that helped her stay alive.
Doctors confirmed that she had signs of life, albeit low but everyone hoped the miracle would happen.
But Rosa’s condition quickly deteriorated and she passed away a few hours later.
Local undertaker Juan Segundo Cajo said: “She had opened her eyes and was sweating. “I immediately went to the office and called the police.”
A video recorded shortly after the shocking discovery showed police placing the coffin in a pickup truck. The video then returns to the moments when a group of doctors stand over Rosa’s open coffin.
The woman was involved in a serious car accident in the Chiclayo-Picsi region where her brother-in-law lost his life and two nephews were injured.
She too was pronounced dead after the accident and the deal was made for her funeral on April 26 in the town of Lambayque.
Relatives had expressed distrust of the premature announcement of Rosa’s death and her being sent to the morgue.
Her angry aunt said, “We want to know why my granddaughter woke up yesterday when we were taking her to the funeral.”
“We recorded on video how she hits and pushes the coffin.”
According to reports doctors at Ferrenafe hospital’s state of coma where the woman had fallen, with death.
Police said they were investigating allegations of negligence on the part of the hospital sending Rosa to the morgue, without first checking if she had indeed died.
Rosa’s three grandchildren, injured in the same accident are being recovered in hospital but in serious condition.
