Qantas announced that from 2025 it will start operating non-stop flights from Sydney to London and New York.
The Australian air giant said it has purchased a new fleet of Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, capable of direct flights to any city in the world.
The first Sydney-London flights will take to the air in 2025 and will last about 20 hours, which will make them the longest passenger flights in the world. This itinerary, launched in 1947, once lasted 58 hours and had a full seven stops.
“What we will do on these flights is create the possibility of direct flights, while the economic prices will be very similar to what you are seeing today. Our goal is for these flights to be operated from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth; “These are national aircraft and will be used everywhere.”
In November 2019, Qantas flew from London to Sydney for 19 and a half hours, as part of a series of tests to evaluate the effects of very long flights.
The 17,800-kilometer journey was part of the company’s goals to operate regular flights from the cities of Sydney and Melbourne to London and New York.
