Former Albanian Foreign Minister Ditmir Bushati, in an interview with Top Channel journalist Muhamed Veliu, sees the difficult victory of Emanuel Macron but with a very dimensional importance as a new configuration in the whole spectrum of French politics.
“For France, for the first time during the Fifth Republic, we have a new political configuration. With the center representing Macron, the anti-capitalist left representing Melonshon and the far right of Le Pen. These elections also confirmed a collapse of traditional French parties because during the French Fifth Republic, we are accustomed to seeing the alternation of power from Republicans to Socialists.
This is why Macron, in the first round ran as a right-winger with a right-wing platform and in the second round to pull Melonsho’s votes ran as a leftist focusing on both environmental issues or issues of equal opportunity. This new political configuration in France and the collapse of traditional French parties are expected to be tested in the next parliamentary elections in June. So, in case we have a victory of Macron’s party and so he has a prime minister of a government that fully shares his beliefs or we will have a cohabitation otherwise known as coexistence where he will be forced to make various concessions with one of the other parties of the French political spectrum“, Explains Bushati.
The triumph over Le Pen, more than a personal victory for Macron, has also been commented on as a more secure future for the existence of the European Union itself. Ditmir Bushati connects this victory with what will happen in the future after the shaky positions of some EU countries in relation to Russia.
“France is one of the veto-wielding countries in the UN Security Council. It is a nuclear power. It is one of the two main engines of the EU along with Germany, so the confirmation of Emanuel Macron as President of France further isolates Russian influence in Europe and further cements the position of the European Union and the coordination of US policies, against the ongoing war takes place on the mainland. There is also a historic opportunity to bring to life the process of reform and consolidation of the European project that Macron has promised and that has been underlined for the conference to be held on the future of Europe. There is a possibility of moving towards a total embargo on Russian oil, which would be the first painful step to save Europe as much as possible from Russian dependence in this regard.“, Says Bushati.
It was France in 2018 that decided to curb EU enlargement by seeking a new methodology. But what are the chances after Macron’s victory that the expansion, as Ditmir Bushati says, will come out of the clinical condition where it is located?
“The geopolitical context in which the enlargement process takes place has changed positively. We must acknowledge that to this day and especially in recent years he is in a clinical condition and situation on the continent with the war in Ukraine, Macron’s victory in France are signals that the enlargement process can be saved, can be saved through reforms that France and Macron has presented either with Europe of some speeds or concentric circles with the most qualified, thus with the ambition of Europe to act in this way to have the right instruments in function of this action. So I hope that the next step will be the beginning of Albania’s EU membership talks, why not now a normal membership process of all countries in the region and part of the Eastern Partnership countries to finalize the European political project”.
