Their short marriage lasted only one year.
Yesterday a judge signed the finalization of Sean Penn’s divorce from actress Leila George, reports the TMZ network.
The couple married in July 2020 but George filed for divorce in October 2021.
The Oscar-winning actor has previously shown how he blames himself for breaking up the marriage.
In a recent interview he said: “There is a woman I love very much, Leila George, whom I now meet only occasionally after I broke up.”
“Technically we had been married for a year, but it was as if it had been five years, I was very negligent,” he added.
Penn, 61, says he did not betray the 30-year-old Australian actress, whose parents also include actors Vincent D’Onofrio and Greta Scaçhi – but admitted to consuming alcohol and sedatives in large doses.
“I used to allow myself to think I had a very important place everywhere, and that included being depressed and consuming alcohol and sedatives until 11:00 in the morning,” he said.
Penn was recently in Ukraine in the form of activism in support of Kiev but left after receiving several threats.
This was the third marriage of the “Milk” actor, who was previously married to Madonna from 1985 to 1989 and “House of Cards” actress Robin Wright from 1996 to 2010.
He has two children with 56-year-old Wright, daughter Dylan, 31, and son Hopper, 28.
Penn has also been paired with actress Charlize Theron from 2013 until the summer of 2015.
