A few hours away, in places 3,500 km apart, two identical crimes were committed, on which the police are investigating.
One in Lloret de Mar, a city in Catalonia starring Russian entrepreneur Sergei Protosenya, the other in Moscow, centered on Vladislav Avayev, was a Kremlin official and vice-president of Gazprombank.
The two Russian millionaires reportedly killed their wives and daughters first, and then themselves. Protosenya, 55, is thought to have stabbed his 53-year-old wife and daughter, who had just turned 18 at a time when they were both asleep, while he himself was found hanged. The alarm was given by the couple’s 22-year-old son, who lived in France.
The family had gone to Lloret de Mar for the Easter holidays: in their villa were found 6 luxury cars and bundles of banknotes containing 10 thousand euros each. In the past, Protosenya had been a manager at Novatek, a gas production company. Avayev, meanwhile, used firearms against his 47-year-old wife and 13-year-old daughter, and then reportedly turned his pistol on himself.
Investigations continue as the media hypothesize that these episodes may be related to Western sanctions, which may have plunged them into debt. Meanwhile, an acquaintance of Avayev’s family says that they may have killed them, as according to him he was rich and quite intelligent and had no reason to do so.
