New dramatic details have emerged about the unusual kidnapping and secret imprisonment of Princess Latifa.
Her friend Tiina Jauhiainen has said she has not heard from her friend for months.
Princess Latifa, imprisoned in Dubai after a daring escape attempt, had contacted her via a secret phone she had been able to secure.
The last time Tiina met Latifa, they were having fun on the deck of a yacht, traveling across the Atlantic Ocean.
This was in February 2018, when they sought to implement the dangerous plan to take Latifa out of Dubai, so that she could start a new life abroad.
The princess is one of at least 25 children of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai.
The sheikh has transformed the emirate into a splendid city, where people flock to do business, and as the entertainment center of the region. But for Emirati women, laws and customs make life very limited.
“They do not allow me to drive, or travel or leave Dubai,” Latifa said in a video recorded shortly before the escape attempt.
“I have not left the country since 2000. I have asked a lot for this, to go out to study, to do normal things. “They do not allow me.”
While staying in Tiina’s apartment, Latifa spoke optimistically about the future.
“I feel positive about the future. “I can’t wait to wake up in the morning and do what I want.”
The princess was not allowed to carry her passport so they were forced to sneak out of Dubai to sail to the shores of Oman.
They had planned to sail in the Indian Ocean and then fly to the United States, where Latifa would seek political asylum.
But eight days later, as they were approaching the shores of India, the escape began its failure.
Gunmen boarded the boat. The two friends hid in the yacht toilet but the smoke grenades forced them out.
“Latifa was screaming and kicking. She said she did not want to be sent back to the UAE. “You better kill me here,” Tiina said of the last time she saw her friend.
In her latest videos, Latifa shows details of the yacht raid.
“I was resisting when one of them pulled out a small bag from which he took the needle and injected it into my arm.”
Latifa says he was later transferred to an Indian military ship.
“Three commandos took me to a corridor and then put me in a large room. I repeated my name Latifa al Maktoum. I told him ‘I do not want to go to Dubai, I want asylum, I am in international waters, let me go’ “.
But her prayers fell on deaf ears and she was then taken by an Emirati commando.
The princess was given a sedative and flown to Dubai.
While Tiina was sent to the Emirates with the crew of the boat, where she was held in custody for two weeks. She then went on to tell the story to the international media and set up an awareness group called ‘Free Latifa’ and raised the issue of pricing at the United Nations.
Just last week the 35-year-old princess appeared in another secret video, talking in whispers from the corner of a toilet.
She said: “I am making this video from a toilet because it is the only place where there is a door that I can close. I am a hostage, I am not free. “I am enslaved in this prison.”
The princess looked pale and swollen, as she could have not seen the sunlight for years.
She continued: “I am in a villa converted to prison. All three windows are barred. There are five police officers outside and two female police officers inside the house. “I can not even go outside to get some air,” said the princess, among other things, documenting her unusual story.
