Greece on Tuesday morning blocked a tanker of Russian interests with crude oil.
Its blocking was made following the order of the Anti-Money Laundering Authority, in the framework of the European Union sanctions against Russia.
The Russian-flagged Pegas¨ 250 meters long, with 19 crew members, all Russian nationals on board, was stopped near the coastal town of Karysto in Evia where it was anchored by port authorities.
Due to mechanical damage, the tanker was accompanied by a tugboat to the Peloponnese peninsula, where the oil would be transported to another tanker, but in the Cape of Doros, unfavorable atmospheric conditions prevailed, so it anchored in the sea area of Karystos.
A Greek Coast Guard official said the tanker was stopped and blocked, but not its oil cargo. While the management company according to the procedure will try through documents to prove that it is not part of the list of sanctions.
According to Greek media there is no other ship of Russian interests in this maritime area.
