Hundreds of students clashed today with French police near the prestigious Sorbonne University in Paris, protesting against the candidates of the final round of the presidential election.
Students had blocked university buildings as they rejected the choice offered between incumbent President Emmanuel Macron and right-wing rival Marine Le Pen for the April 24 election.
Students unfurled leaflets from the windows of the famous university chanting “we are anti-fascists,” as police used tear gas to stop others from joining them.
A large banner hung in front of the busy building read “Sorbonne locks up against Macron, Le Pen and their world.”
At the prestigious science faculty the left-wing students had blocked the main entrance with rubbish bins and makeshift barricades.
In other published images, groups of right-wing students were seen trying to open the locked gates of the university.
Paris police reported other similar blockades at several universities as of Thursday.
Meanwhile Macron stands a few points ahead of Le Pen in the presidential race, where the votes of the supporters of the leftist candidate eliminated Melenchon are expected to be decisive.
