The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka stated that our country has met the 15 conditions required for the opening of negotiations with the EU and now it is the turn of the EU to open the First Intergovernmental Conference.
According to Minister Xhaçka, the April 25 elections are also a test.
“A lot of work has been done to meet the 15 points required by the EU. Albania has done its homework, it has fulfilled all the conditions set, it is time for the EU to keep the promise it has made to Albania. Albania has done everything possible, it is the turn of the EU. The April 25 elections, the holding of fair elections is the key that will pave the way to integration. Never before has a majority done as much as us to guarantee free elections. The new electoral code was in The Economist’s assessment. Just a few days ago, I received a copy of the OSCE / ODIHR election report and it is a report that recognizes the major changes that were made between the parties, the election procedures. It is not only their implementation, but also the report of the CEC. It is all these elements that make us look forward to the First Intergovernmental Conference. I have a concern that I hear the views and statements of weighty politicians, they seem to be ready to use every opportunity to block the process. “It is now difficult for them to refuse when the facts are clear”, said Xhaçka.
