France said on April 14 that its embassy in Ukraine would return to Kiev after relocating to the western city of Lviv in March, following the start of the Russian occupation.
“This resumption will happen very soon and will allow France to deepen its support for Ukraine in all areas, in order to face the war launched by Russia on February 24,” said the French Foreign Ministry through a statement.
The French Foreign Minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian, made this announcement during a telephone conversation he had with his Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Kuleba.
France, however, continues to instruct its citizens to return to Ukraine, including Kiev.
“We think the return of French nationals who have lived in Ukraine is still unimaginable. “The return of the French today continues to be officially banned,” the French government said on April 13, noting that “all of Ukraine continues to be a war zone.”
France is providing Ukraine with military equipment, humanitarian aid and assistance to investigate crimes allegedly committed by Russian forces against Ukrainian civilians.
The French government has allocated 100 million euros for humanitarian aid to Ukraine and neighboring countries, including Poland and Moldova, countries that have accepted large numbers of Ukrainian refugees./REL
