Allyson Felix, the most decorated athlete of all time at the Olympics, will retire from the sport at the end of the season.
The 36-year-old American has won 11 Olympic medals, including seven gold, as well as 13 world titles. She competed in her fifth and final Olympics in Tokyo last summer.
“In my wildest dreams I would not have imagined that I would have a career like this,” said Felix. – “I am very grateful for this sport that has changed my life, I have given everything to run and for the first time I am not sure if I have anything left to give. I want to say goodbye and thank the sport and the people who have helped me keep fit in the only way I know how to be before the last run.
If you see me on the track this year, I hope to share a moment, a memory and my appreciation with you. ”
Felix has won four Olympic gold medals in the 4x400m relay, two in the 4x100m relay and one in the 200m.
In November 2018, Felix gave birth to her daughter, Camryn, by cesarean section in the 32nd week of pregnancy due to a problem that could endanger the lives of both.
About a year later, she became the most successful athlete in World Championship history when she won two gold medals in the relay in Doha.
