Based on the epidemiological data and the latest suggestions of experts, the Greek authorities have communicated that the country will return to almost normalcy from May 1 regarding the measures against the pandemic.
Thanos Plevris, Minister of Health: From 1 May to 31 August, it is not necessary to present a COVID-19 vaccination certificate or recovery certificate for access to all indoor and outdoor facilities. This means that even where there was an obligation to have a negative test, it will no longer be required. The measure will be re-evaluated on September 1st.
Daily coronavirus infections in Greece have decreased in recent days, despite the fact that the number of deaths remains high, 65 in the last 24 hours and a total of 28,344. Also over 72% of Greeks are already vaccinated.
The easing of measures comes at the beginning of Greece’s tourist season that usually begins after Orthodox Easter, which this year is on April 24, while there is hope that this year the record number of 33 million tourists who came to Greece in 2019 will be reached.
Therefore, from May 1 to August 30, all restrictions regarding the number of customers in the premises of restaurants or various businesses are removed and they can operate at a capacity of 100 percent, until the review of measures on September 1.
Thanos Plevris, Minister of Health: At the same time we are considering the abolition of the requirement to submit an EU digital certificate upon entry into the country and there will be new announcements.
Also, from April 15, the fine of 100 euros will be removed for persons over the age of 60 who are not vaccinated and from May 3, when the schools will reopen after the Great Week, students will return to the school benches without being forced to perform two weekly tests for coronavirus.
One of the measures still in force in Greece is the mandatory wearing of masks indoors until May 31 and the recommendation to keep it even during the Easter religious ceremonies that will take place for the first time after two years of the pandemic.
