France has expelled 6 Russian officials on espionage charges. The French Foreign Ministry said that the decision was taken after a long investigation, where it was confirmed that all 6 Russian citizens under the guise of diplomatic duty, were carrying out actions that undermined the interests of the French state.
It was the intelligence services that uncovered the operation on Sunday.
“Six Russian agents acting under diplomatic duty, whose activities were found to be contrary to our national interests, have been declared persona non grata“, Said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.
In a Twitter post, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said they had captured a network of Russian agents working behind their backs.
France, on the other hand, has so far expelled 35 Russian diplomats. France at the time described their actions as a threat to their security.
A large number of states have expelled Russian diplomats, especially after the killings of civilians in the city of Bucha, where hundreds of bodies were found on the city streets and in mass graves.
