German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said on Monday after a meeting of European Union foreign ministers in Luxembourg that because of the war in Ukraine, it is important for the EU to be supported by countries on the path to membership.
According to the German minister, this was a special message for Serbia, which, according to her, should support Brussels’s foreign policy, and thus sanctions for Russia.
““I would like to tell Serbia if you want to become a member that you are striving for, it is essential that you support foreign policy and EU sanctions at the moment.”concluded Baerbock.
She added that the same goes for other Western Balkan countries, which have made it clear these days and weeks that they see their future in the EU, and most of whom have backed EU sanctions.
Serbia condemned Russia’s attack on Ukraine, but did not support EU sanctions.
