The drastic rise in prices is hitting consumers hard by further increasing their living costs.
This has caused inflation in March to jump to 5.7%, the highest level in 20 years.
This inflation rate is much higher than the Bank of Albania’s 3% target, but it is also expected based on the projections of the institution itself, according to which the wave of price increases will not stop even in the rest of the year.
Almost all goods have become more expensive during this period according to statistics, especially food headed by basic basket products and fuels for which Albanian citizens have paid significantly more, which led the government to intervene to limit them by setting up monitoring boards.
Costs have also risen for rent, water and electricity bills as well as cafes and restaurants.
The price crisis will continue to cause great difficulties for the budgets of Albanian consumers, which lead to over 42% of their expenditures only for food, and it seems that its effects will be felt in the long run.
