Popular Russian models are filming themselves on social media cutting their favorite Chanel bags with scissors, in protest of sanctions and a ban on online purchases of their favorite accessories.
Famous women accuse the company of ‘rusophobia’ for Chanel’s departure from their country.
The development comes though the company has invited its Russian customers to shop at its stores abroad, but with the commitment that they will not hold or display their products in Russia.
But the rich Russian girl does not seem to want to know about the war dead in Ukraine that also brought Western sanctions on their country.
Actress and TV presenter Marina Ermoshkina, 28, expressed her anger at more than 400,000 followers on Instagram by mercilessly cutting her luxury bag in the live video.
“No object or firm is worth as much as my love for the homeland or respect for myself,” she says, cutting the bag with a pair of professional scissors.
“I am against Russophobia and against companies that nurture Russophobia. “Dealing with Chanel is like selling my homeland.”
“I had dreamed of buying this bag since I was little”, adds the actress, cutting the bag with scissors.
While DJ Katya Guseva, 39, said of her 600,000 followers: “I say no to Chanel.”
“They ask me to sign a humiliating document, seeking to reject my homeland in favor of their brand.”
“I am against Russophobia and discrimination by nationality. To show you that I’m serious, here I am cutting the bag with scissors. “Bye-bye, Chanel,” she says.
She added: “Russian women are wonderful, whether they have Chanel or not – the whole world knows this, just like Chanel.”
Monaco-based Russian model and businesswoman Victoria Bonya, 42, with 9 million followers on the network, commented in English: “If Chanel House does not respect its customers, why should I respect Chanel? Bye bye. ”
The women were backed by Russian commentator Sharli Prokopif, who told her 250,000 followers: “I am a Russian living in Europe – and I refuse to wear Chanel.
Commentators expressed frustration with the behavior and hashtag #ByeByeChanel.
One user asked: “Why not worry about the deaths in Ukraine caused by the Russian army? But do you deal with these shows with scissors? ”
Another suggested a more lenient behavior: “This is ridiculous, sell the bags and get the money, why do you dramatize it like that?”
The protest videos follow similar messages from influential Russian from Dubai to the rejection of big firms.
Russian designer Liza Litvin showed that she refused to keep Chanel in the mall in Dubai.
“I went to a Chanel store in the Mall of the Emirates, but they did not sell me because I was from Russia, unless I agreed not to keep it in Russia. “I came to vomit,” said Lytvyn.
Influencer Yana Rudkovskaya, 47, a music producer from Moscow, the wife of world champion skater Alexander Plyushenko, was horrified when she was denied her favorite brand.
She says she has spent more than a million euros on Chanel over the years and considered the latest move somewhat “shameful”.
Earlier, Moscow spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused Chanel of joining a “Russophobic campaign to wipe out Russia.”
She said, among other things: “Even during World War II, Coco Chanel herself was an accomplice and agent of the Third Reich. “As it is now during Russia’s campaign against fascism in Ukraine.”
Chanel’s headquarters in France confirmed the policy, saying it was bound by EU and Swiss sanctions on luxury items.
So she asked her clients to “confirm that the products would not be used in Russia.”
