Greece has recommended the fourth dose of the Covid-19 vaccine for people over the age of 70, those living in care facilities for the elderly, and citizens over the age of 60 with serious illnesses.
The news was announced by the president of the National Vaccination Commission, Maria Theodoridou, while the secretary of the Ministry of Health, Marios Themistokleous, announced that the registration for the fourth dose will be opened on Thursday, April 7, for the age group over 80 years and a week later for him from 70-79 years.
According to pandemic specialists, a fourth dose of mRNA vaccine (Pfizer and Moderna) is recommended four months after vaccination with the third dose. The chairwoman of the vaccination commission announced that it was decided that children and adolescents aged 12-17 years with immunosuppression and high-risk diseases, be given a boosting dose, 3 months after the second dose.
New vaccination announcements came on a day when Greece again recorded high numbers of infections and deaths.
In the last 24 hours 18,988 new cases of Covid 19 were reported, 358 intubated patients, while 70 people lost their lives. A total of 27,816 people have died from the coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic in Greece.
