Over 7.1 million Ukrainians are internally displaced, forced to flee their homes.
According to the latest report of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) there is a 10% increase in the number of internally displaced persons since the first IOM survey on 16 March.
“Humanitarian corridors are urgently needed to allow the safe evacuation of civilians and to ensure the safe transport and delivery of much-needed humanitarian aid to help the internally displaced,” said IOM Director-General António Vitorino. .
More than 50% of displaced families have children, 57% include elderly members and 30% have people with chronic illnesses, according to the survey.
More than a third of displaced families indicated they had no income in the last month, the IOM said.
With more than 4.2 million refugees fleeing Ukraine to neighboring countries, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, a total of at least 11.3 million people have been displaced since the beginning of the Russian occupation in late February.
