Italy reported 70,803 cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, up from 74,350 the day before, the health ministry said, while the death toll fell from 154 to 129.
Italy has recorded 159,666 deaths from COVID-19 since the pandemic erupted in February 2020, the second highest number in Europe after Britain and the eighth highest in the world.
To date, Italy has reported 14.79 million cases of COVID-19.
The number of patients in hospitals treating COVID-19 patients – not including those in intensive care – was 9,949 on Saturday, up from 9,981 the day before.
There were 72 new admissions to intensive care units, up from 47 on Friday.
The total number of intensive care patients increased to 493 from 476 who were already hospitalized.
