The CODA drama, which tells the story of the challenges of a deaf family, has won the top prize for best film at the Oscars.
CODA became the first film from the Apple TV + platform to win the Academy Award for Best Picture.
But the 94th edition of the Oscars was marked by another event.
Actor Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock in the face at the Oscars stage after the comedian made a joke about the actor’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
Rock joke was a reference to the look of Jada Pinkett Smith, who appeared at this shaved-headed event.
After Smith punched Chris Rock in the face and asked him not to mention his wife, Rock said “this was the best night in television history.”
Smith then apologized, during his speech after winning the Best Actor award.
“I want to apologize to the Academy and the other nominees,” Smith said.
This was Smith’s first Oscar for his role in King Richard, where he portrayed the father of two American tennis players, Venus and Serena Williams.
Jada Pinkett Smith has previously talked about hair loss due to alopecia disease.
