Russia’s Defense Ministry has updated the figures of soldiers killed in Ukraine, where it says there are 1,351 victims and 3,825 wounded, reports the Ria Novosti news agency, according to the BBC.
Ukrainian military sources previously claimed that 15,000 Russian soldiers had been killed, though that figure could include wounded as well as dead.
American intelligence thinks half of that number may be dead.
The first statistics from the Russian Ministry of Defense for the victims was on March 2 and stated that 498 soldiers had died during the occupation.
On March 21, the pro-Kremlin newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda (KP) published an article quoting the defense ministry as saying that 9,861 Russian servicemen had been killed in the war.
Later, part of that article disappeared and the KP editor told the BBC that the information had been the result of a hacker.
