Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during his speech to the Japanese parliament mentioned the dangers of Russian attacks on nuclear power plants that his country was facing, raising concerns about Chernobyl.
Earlier this month, Russian troops entered the Chernobyl zone and cordoned off the perimeter of the nuclear power plant.
Moscow said it had secured the country along with Ukraine’s national guard, but Ukraine said Russian troops had taken full control.
Zelensky’s speech brought back to the Japanese memories the Fukushima nuclear disaster in 2011.
