A 17-month-old girl has been killed by a dog at her home in Britain.
Bella-Rae Birch died yesterday from the wounds of the attack on her home in the British town of St Helens.
Her family said the little one will miss her very much and thanked the community for the support.
Police said the family had bought the dog just a week ago.
The animal was killed by officers, who added that tests would be performed to see if the apparently ‘pit-bull’ dog was an illegal crossbreed.
Police said they will try to identify the dog’s subsequent owners.
The aggravated assault occurred the family home in Blackbrook, St. Helens.
One of the neighbors, who gave the name Jordan, said that he had found the parents of the child “in a state of hysteria”.
“We just came by car and heard screams. I ran to help and tried to give the child first aid until the paramedics arrived. “I had not seen the dog, I focused on helping the baby.”
Another neighbor who came to help said: “The parents were devoted to the children, this is very disturbing.
Joanne Matthews said she had seen the ambulance outside the house and then many police officers.
“I saw that they took the dog out. “I do not know what breed it was but from behind it looked like ‘bull terrier’ or ‘pit bull’,” she said.
Matthews added that the girl was “a wonderful child”.
“We greeted the family, they were always polite,” she added.
Another neighbor, who did not want to be named, said he found the area crowded with police.
“My mother was crying in front of the house. “It was hysterical,” she said.
“This is usually a quiet family place and when you see something like that it is disturbing.”
Police said they are staying at the tragedy house and are continuing investigations and taking evidence.
