The European Union said Kosovo had rejected “a constructive proposal submitted by QUINT” to allow Kosovar citizens with Serbian citizenship to express their will on Sunday (April 3rd) in Serbia’s parliamentary and presidential elections.
EU Foreign and Security Policy spokesman Peter Stano told a news conference that the European Union, together with the QUNIT countries, had been very active in finding a solution.
Although he did not say what proposal Kosovo had rejected, Stano said it was a practical solution using the analogy from previous practices, which were created during previous voting for eligible citizens residing abroad. of their origin.
“While we acknowledge that Serbia was ready to find a solution, we regret that the consensus between the parties was not finally found after Kosovo’s decision to reject a constructive proposal submitted by QUINT. So, we consider this decision contrary to the commitments of Kosovo on its European path, for its European future, and contrary to the principle of protection of the democratic rights of all its citizens, including the citizens who belong to the non-majority population. So now we expect Kosovo and Serbia to refrain from actions and rhetoric that could increase tensions. “We also call on both sides to act responsibly and engage constructively in the ongoing negotiations in the framework of the EU-facilitated dialogue,” Stano said.
Stano also said that there is no high-level meeting between Kosovo and Serbia arranged within the dialogue between the two countries but work is being done in this direction.
“There is no meeting that I can announce today, in the framework of dialogue, at a high level, but we are working for this goal and we really call on both parties to act responsibly and engage in a way constructive, so that such a meeting can be organized “, continued Stano.
At this conference, Stano also spoke about the fact that Serbia has not implemented all sanctions against Russia, even being the only country in Europe that has supported Russia with marches, saying that he expects Serbia to align with the positions of the European Union.
