The Ministry of Agriculture has announced that the first case of H5N8 Avian Influenza has been confirmed in a poultry farm in Durrës.
The tracking of the disease by the authorities has started with an in-depth epidemiological investigation as soon as the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has received the first alert for the death of chickens.
The Ministry informs that the successive analyzes, in samples and in different establishments, all over the country, taken during this period, confirmed the laryngotracheal disease, found only in two establishments in Durrës.
While tracking and monitoring continued from the first signalization for each day of testing, a sample taken today, dated 19 March 2022, analyzed by the reference laboratory of the Institute of Food Safety and Veterinary, has resulted after analysis with the advanced molecular method RT- PCR, in the presence of avian influenza, H5N8.
The case has been isolated, while quarantine has been established and all measures have been taken to limit the spread of this disease by determining the perimeter of the area from which the movement of birds, their products and by-products is prohibited.
The Ministry advises consumers not to fall prey to speculators who may trade poultry meat without a veterinary certificate or in unsuitable trade or storage conditions and immediately report to the green number at the National Food Authority: 0800 7575.
It is also suggested that chicken poultry foods be cooked at temperatures above 70 ° C and eggs should also be well cooked. Complete cooking of meat and eggs ensures the inability of the virus to be present in raw products entering the food chain.
“There is no epidemiological evidence that this virus can be transmitted to humans through food (birds and eggs). The virus is sensitive to heat and disinfectants as well, so good hygiene practices (surface disinfection) and personal hygiene (hand washing) help control the risk. “Through the National Food Authority we inform consumers that foods of poultry origin in the market are within the traceability standards and are verified by our inspectors, who are re-inspecting every trader, poultry processor in the field for a full compliance of traceability,” he said. ministry.
