At least 4 people have lost their lives in Belgium after a car speeding towards a crowd of people.
The incident took place in the small town of Strépy-Bracquegnies, about 50 km south of the capital Brussels.
The car reportedly crashed rapidly into a group of people who were preparing for a carnival parade on Sunday.
“We have several dozen injured and unfortunately some people killed,” city mayor Jacques Gobert told RTBF.
At least 12 people are reported to have been seriously injured after the accident. According to police, the persons who were in the car have been arrested.
The circumstances of the incident are not yet clear, while the track of a terrorist attack is also being investigated.
Belgian Interior Minister Annelies Verlinden said what was supposed to be a big holiday turned into a tragedy.
