Prime Minister Edi Rama stated during today’s meeting with farmers that most of the public investment in construction has stopped today. This has happened, according to the Prime Minister, due to the tripling of the price of iron in the market, further emphasizing that investments will be suspended until this situation passes.
“Today in Albania we have stopped most of the public and private investments in construction. They stopped because the iron has increased 3-fold. Our contracts for the Llogara tunnel and other investments are three times less than the price of iron. We are told we can not continue to enforce the contract when this has happened here. We can not do it. We go completely bankrupt. We say OK, stop until this situation stops. Many people fall short. They say leave the investment. Yes this is leaving thousands of people jobless. And admit that by removing those investments you are entering an economic downturn. “Who grows the economy, increases investment, not spending.” said Rama.
In his speech before the farmers, the Prime Minister also focused on energy. He stressed that this is the third year in a row that Albania has recorded very low rainfall, adding that the country is forced to stop production, because if the dams are completely emptied, they end forever.
“Then we have to go out to buy it and out there today the price catches a value that goes away. We are in March, the crisis has started to appear from the end of September, we have before us all the heat and drought, which means that we have to shake the entire state budget so that this crisis does not come to you. I strongly agree that costs have increased, but they have increased due to the general crisis“, Said Rama.
