Denisa Elezi, administrator of the company “Victus Fed”, which produces Dumre saffron in Albania, says for AgroWeb that this company was born in March 2013, after several years of experimentation in the Dumre area and other areas of Albania.

The seed sown in Dumre has been selected from the Acquila area in central Italy, which is also the area historically known for saffron production.
Dumre saffron, in addition to trading in organic products in Tirana, is also traded in Vlora, Elbasan or Saranda, while a quantity of production is also exported to Italy.
Saffron values
The saffron with the botanical name Crocus sativus, is obtained from the plant of the family Iridaceae, which has a short flowering season, only three weeks a year.
The healing part of saffron is the stigmas that contain safranal and numerous phytochemicals like crocin, picrocrocin, lycopene, carotenoids and alkaloids.
Saffron is a natural remedy for stress and depression and also helps alleviate diseases like Alzheimer’s.
Of the vitamins, saffron in significant amounts contains vitamin C, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, folic acid and vitamin B6.
For 0.5 kg of spice it is necessary to take about 75,000 flowers. A flower has 3 strands that must be carefully collected by hand.
One gram has about 200-300 strands of saffron stigma.
