The first package of humanitarian supplies to Ukraine has arrived in Sumy, according to the United Nations.
Thousands of civilians have fled the besieged north-eastern city in recent days, but many more remain.
““We are here to help the most vulnerable civilians captured in combat, wherever they are in Ukraine.” said UN Crisis Coordinator for Ukraine Amin Awad.
The column in Sumy contains 130 metric tons of essential aid, including bottled water, canned food and medical supplies. The items are expected to directly affect about 35,000 residents.
The UN has said it will be the first of many deployments to the war-torn country, calling on “all parties” to allow “unhindered and sustained humanitarian access” to its volunteers and partners.
