Russia has failed to meet its targets in Ukraine, the British Defense Intelligence chief has said.
Lieutenant General Sir Jim Hockenhull said the use of weapons by Russian forces would inevitably lead to more civilian casualties and a humanitarian crisis.
“The Kremlin has so far failed to achieve its initial objectives. “He is surprised by the size and ferocity of the Ukrainian resistance and is deceived by the problems he has created.”he said in a statement.
“Russian operations have changed. Russia is now pursuing an ‘erosion’ strategy. This will involve the reckless and indiscriminate use of firepower. ”
The strategy will result in an increase in civilian casualties, a disruption of Ukrainian infrastructure and an intensification of the humanitarian crisis, he said.
At the same time, Sir Jim said President Vladimir Putin was tightening his grip on the local Russian media in an attempt to mask the problems.
“The Kremlin is trying to control the narrative, to hide operational problems and to hide the high number of Russian victims from the Russian people.” tha Hockenhull.
