Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov has reportedly traveled to Ukraine, where members of his militia are believed to be fighting alongside regular Russian forces.
A television station controlled by the Kadyov administration in Chechnya posted a video to the Telegram on March 13, saying Kadyrov was in Ukraine even though he did not indicate the exact location of the video.
Kadryrov has not yet confirmed that he is in Ukraine. However, it is known that his units of the Chechen National Guard have been sent to Ukraine.
In the video, Kadyrov is seen meeting soldiers who tell him about the fighting. Meanwhile, in the background is a photo of Kadyrov’s father, Akhmad.
In the video, Kadyrov speaks briefly as soldiers show how the unit took control of an orphanage seven kilometers from Kiev.
The video is titled: “Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov and fighters taking part in a special military operation in Ukraine”.
The media have widely reported on the participation of Chechen fighters in Ukraine, as videos and photos of them proving their participation in this war have been published.
Chechen paramilitary units are widely regarded as fearsome military forces. They have been deployed in the past, ostensibly with the authorization of the Government, in eastern Ukraine, but also in other countries such as Syria.
