Leonid Slutsky, a member of the Russian delegation to the Ukraine-Russia talks, said “significant progress” had been made in negotiations with the Ukrainian delegation since the start of the talks.
“If we compare the positions of Russia and Ukraine in the negotiations at the beginning and now, we can see significant progress,” Slutsky said.
According to the Russian state agency, RIA, Slutsky stresses that this is a good way and that there is an expectation that both delegations can reach the signing of a document.
“I expect that progress can be increased in a unified position of the two delegations and in a document for signing,” he said.
Talks between Ukrainian and Russian diplomats last week yielded no progress. This is also shown by the fact that the humanitarian corridors, for which the parties agreed to allow the evacuation of civilians, were attacked by Russian forces. The death toll in Ukraine continues to rise and by the end of the week, both sides were exchanging accusations of using chemical weapons.
