It certainly takes some “stature” actor to play the role of Napoleon Bonaparte, even though he is said to have not been as tall as the fame of his name, writes the Daily Mail.
But the task does not seem to scare Joaquin Phoenix, the 47-year-old actor who with his nobility is transforming into the French emperor for his latest film.
The news comes as filming of the film was spotted by paparazzi in Greenwich in south-east London where Phoenix was seen in full military attire posing as the fearless emperor.
Despite rumors of Napoleon’s not-so-tall body, he is believed to have reached 1.70 cm which was the average height of a man for the era. Phoenix is slightly taller at 1.80
The film actually explores Napoleon’s rise to power through his relationship with his wife Josephine.
Phoenix plays there alongside actress Vanessa Kirby, who also plays Princess Margaret in the series The Crown.
Here Phoenix reunites with director Sir Ridley Scott after starring in the movie ‘Gladiator’ in the distant year 2000.
Ridley said: “Napoleon is a man who has always fascinated me, he came out of nowhere to lead everything, but in fact the biggest fight was with his cheerful wife Josephine who betrayed him.
“He conquered the world trying to win her love, and when he could not get it, he turned the conquest into destruction,” according to the English director.
The film is expected to be released next year.
