But Albania has a history of its relations with Moscow, until the mid-1960s. Russian culture influenced the formation of an entire generation, from army generals to great writers. Russian was once taught as a second language in schools.

But with the departure from the east to the west, even Russian in Albanian schools began to decline. Teacher Argita, today is the only remaining Russian language teacher in the high school of foreign languages.
Argita Nako: 6 years ago when I started working there were more than 250 students who had chosen the Russian language, while this year there are about 70 students who have chosen it as a second foreign language, unfortunately it has not been chosen as a language first foreign.
Fortunately, most Albanian youth today choose to learn and speak English. This has led to the fact that after 75 years in Albania, the Russian language, although not removed, has shrunk. Today those who learn Russian are few. So are their teachers.
Even those who love Russian, have no practical motives, but emotional.
Armando Aliaj: “My mother was a Russian language teacher, and my grandfather also wanted me to solve it.”
Era Kolaneci: “Russian language is rare. “As a child, I liked to learn that my grandmother was connected to Russian culture.”
From the 50s to the 80s, the situation was quite different. But first from the severance of relations with Moscow in 1965 and then the fall of the dictatorship, the Russian language and culture were overthrown. Russian went out of curriculum and the careers of thousands of teachers were cut short.
Avni Xhelili: “Today there are only 4 lecturers left at the Faculty of Foreign Languages and only one Russian language teacher in the gymnasium, while there are no students at all.”
