Polish President Andrzej Duda has called the Russian attack on a maternity hospital and children’s hospital in Ukraine an “act of barbarism and genocide.” He also called for further sanctions against Moscow.
After a bilateral meeting with US Vice President Kamala Harris, Duda thanked him for imposing sanctions on Russia. He asked for more help for Ukraine from the international community in this extremely difficult situation for him.
“Ukraine must be helped and we must stand united in this,” he said.
Regarding the US rejection of a Polish plan to send Soviet-era fighter jets to Ukraine via a US-NATO air base in Germany, he said Poland was ready to supply fighter jets to Ukraine, but wanted it to be a joint decision and not just of Poland.
Vatican Secretary of State Pietro Parolin has also expressed concern about the Russian bombing of a maternity hospital and children’s hospital in Mariupol, Ukraine, calling it an unacceptable act.
He reiterated the Vatican’s desire to mediate peace talks between Ukraine and Russia, and why, according to him, the space for negotiations is small.
