Teacher Vera I knew in 2020, as the 75-year-old teacher who in the face of risk to her health, instead of retiring chose to continue the mission to educate.
Two years later we return to one of the private schools in Durrës, where Vera teaches, who is now 77 years old, and has not interrupted her studies for a single day during the pandemic period, but today we have the good fortune to meet outside without mask…
Covidi did not separate her for a moment from the profession, from the students she sees as her children, but unfortunately separated her from her husband…
“I lost my husband. On October 10 he left the hospital on November 1 I was informed. I can not believe it. A big loss. “But I will continue to give my contribution.”
As teacher Vera, all the teachers who worked in difficult conditions suddenly changed by covid were strong, but not all of them managed to save themselves from the disease of the 21st century. Since the beginning of the spread of the coronavirus in Albania, until today, 27 teachers have died in the line of duty, such as the Albanian language teacher, Ded Malaj at the Lidhja e Prizrenit school.
In most educational institutions, teaching was traditionally conducted before the pandemic, but by March 9, 2020 teaching was shifted entirely to the virtual world. A new reality which was immediately established, so much so that physical education began to be explained online.
But not all students were able to attend the lesson remotely from home.
Even in rural areas, there were students who had neither telephone nor electricity.
Children with different abilities found it more difficult to close schools to attend online classes.
With the opening of schools after the outbreak of the pandemic, in 2021 teaching again did not return to normal. Classes were shortened, and students needed time to adjust to anticovid measures.
Infections of teachers or children themselves during this period caused significant deficiencies in students’ knowledge.
Therefore, the chaos created today in Albanian schools, the 77-year-old teacher refuses not to give her knowledge to change it, although she demands that in order to change the state of the education system today, everyone must contribute.
