Citizens of six municipalities have turned to polling stations to elect their mayor for a one-year term. The highest voter turnout was recorded in Debar. Where 37.17% of citizens went to the ballot box to elect the mayor with an almost negligible mandate.
After Dibra, ranked with the highest turnout is that of Vora, where 34.22% of citizens have chosen to express their favorite by voting.
Lushnja comes third from the ranking with 31.27% turnout, followed by Rrogozhina with 26.31%.
Whereas the lowest voter turnout, up to this hour, was recorded in Shkodra with 22.88% of citizens and in Durrës with 21.52%.
The voting process for the local by-elections in 6 municipalities of the country has started from 07:00, this morning.
In the voting lists are about 654 thousand Albanian citizens with the right to vote who have been invited to participate in the elections to elect the new mayors of Vora, Rrogozhina, Lushnja, Shkodra, Dibra and Durres.
The CEC has announced that there are over 10 thousand voters voting for the first time. Voting is taking place normally, with the exception of some polling stations, mainly in Shkodra where voting was not possible due to bad snowy weather.
Meanwhile, in three polling stations, one in Dibër and two in Durrës, there were incidents, where there were also physical confrontations.
Candidates of the Socialist Party, the Democratic Party and the “House of Freedom” coalition are running in these elections, with the exception of Dibra, where in addition to the candidates of the above three subjects, a candidate from a fourth political force is also running.
