Thousands of Serb citizens gathered in Belgrade on Friday in support of the Russian occupation of Ukraine.
The speakers at the rally were the leaders of an officially banned movement of the far right and extremist Obraz.
Demonstrators chanted “Serbs, Russians, brothers forever” and “Glory to Serbia, glory to Russia”, some of them carrying the infamous “Z” sign, a symbol often displayed on Russian tanks and vehicles during the occupation.
“Ukraine is being liberated from the neo-Nazis, there is nothing more to say. The Western system penetrated into Ukraine, the Russians, our brothers, are liberating it. “We hope it liberates the whole world.”
Serbia, an aspiring member of the European Union that also has strong ties to the Kremlin, condemned the Russian occupation of Ukraine but refused to impose sanctions on Moscow.
